Durban - Five men accused of killing an IFP supporter will have to wait almost two weeks before finding out when they will stand trial.

The five appeared briefly in the Durban Regional Court on Friday.

The matter was postponed to May 15, when a trial date is expected to be set down.

Mgezeni “Bhungu” Gwala, his son Mjabulelwa, Malusi Sibusiso Ncengwa, Skhumbuzo Nxumalo and Bonginhlanhla Gwala are charged with killing Inkatha Freedom Party supporter Cebisile Shezi.

She was shot dead outside the Thembalihle railway station in KwaMashu on October 6 last year, shortly after Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa addressed IFP supporters at a sports field.

She was wearing an IFP T-shirt at the time.

Mgezeni Gwala was granted bail in November as, according to the prosecutor, there “is a strong possibility that the State's case against him might be in doubt”.

Ncengwa was granted bail in December, when the prosecutor conceded the case against him was not very strong and that the State needed to “re-look at his involvement in this case”. - Sapa
