Durban - Two men are expected to appear in court on Wednesday for the armed robbery of a Sherwood family.

The two were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the robbery on Monday.

A taxi passenger was struck in the arm by a stray bullet during an exchange of gunfire between three suspects and the victim of the robbery in Dunbar Road, Cato Manor.

Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said: “Police arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.

“One suspect is still at large. The arrested suspects will be charged for robbery with aggravating circumstances and will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday,” Naicker said.

Police at the scene said the owner of the property had driven into his driveway while the suspects were driving off.

The owner followed the suspect’s vehicle towards Dunbar Road. Police said the suspects fired shots at his car.

The victim fired back.

In the shoot-out a passenger in the taxi was struck in the arm by a stray bullet.

Police opened an attempted murder docket at Cato Manor police station and a case of house robbery at Sydenham police station.

Police have not given details of the wounded passenger at this stage.

The victim in the robbery was too distraught to speak to the media, saying he feared for his life.

Sherwood Community Policing Forum spokesperson Satish Dhupelia said they hailed the arrest of the suspects as a major breakthrough.
