Temperatures dropped to below zero in the Drakensberg and heavy snowfall has been reported for Sani Pass.
|||Durban - Temperatures dropped to below zero in the Drakensberg and Sani Pass on Friday morning reported heavy snowfall.
Rob Ansell spokesman, for snowreport.co.za, said a light dusting of snow also fell in Nottingham Road, late last night.
According to Stacy Colborne, of the Durban Weather Office, snowfall was recorded at Giants Castle and Underberg. She said temperatures were not expected to peak above 11 degrees.
At Sani Pass heavy snowfall was recorded from midnight until 8am today.
Operations manager at the Sani Mountain Lodge, Brian Maher, said temperatures dropped to freezing as snow blanketed the Sani Mountain Lodge. “The snowfall tapered off after 8am to produce a winter wonderland.”
Colborne said the weather in Durban was expected to be sunny and warm at the weekend.
“On Saturday and Sunday temperatures will peak around 25 degrees. No rainfall is expected.”
She said rain was expected on Monday night with a cold spell expected in the province on Tuesday and Wednesday.
