|||Durban - KwaZulu-Natal local government MEC Nomusa Dube has been asked to postpone the by-election in Ward 39, eThekwini, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said on Monday.
“(This was) following allegations of voter registration fraud ahead of the scheduled by-election on 3 July 2013,” IEC spokeswoman Kate Bapela said in a statement.
“An investigation is presently underway to determine the veracity of these allegations of voter registration fraud.”
No voting would take place in the ward, and the IEC would advise on further arrangements, she said.
The ward was being contested by the African National Congress, the Congress of the People, the Inkatha Freedom Party, and the National Freedom Party. The previous councillor, an IFP member, resigned.
