|||Durban - A man from Durban’s Outer West who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend three times in front of their children is due to return to court on Friday, charged with her murder.
Sboniso Dlamini, a 26-year old petrol attendant, allegedly stabbed Slindile Nduli, the mother of his three-month-old daughter and three-year-old son, three times under her left shoulder.
Dlamini’s mother, Misiwe Dlamini, who had been at church, said she learnt of the horror when she returned to her home in uMshazi near Inanda Dam, on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to the Daily News this week, she said people were milling about in her yard.
“As I approached, I asked them what had happened. They told me to just go in the house,” where the young couple and their children had been alone.
She found Nduli, 28, on the floor in one of the bedrooms, covered in a blanket.
“But I recognised her legs and when I pulled the blanket away and saw her face, my worst fears were confirmed.”
Dlamini’s cousin was the first person to see the body after being alerted by the alleged killer, said the mother.
“She got here and saw the body. She wailed, calling neighbours’ attention,” said Dlamini.
The children had been locked in another room.
“Neighbours found them in there crying and let them out.
“They must have seen it happen, but they are so young they don’t remember; they are playing in front of me now.”
Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said: “The suspect was acting strange, knocking at other people’s car windows. He stopped a police vehicle on patrol in the area and told them what he had done.”
He was arrested and appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
His distraught mother is struggling to come to terms with the killing and said she was dreading meeting Nduli’s family, who are from Mpumalanga. Nduli lived in Umlazi and had been visiting Dlamini for the weekend.
“We haven’t talked because by the time I got here he had handed himself over to the police. I really don’t know what went wrong.
“He is my son, but she was my daughter too. I’m leaving his fate to the law.”
