Two gunmen who robbed a woman outside a bank got less than they bargained for - nothing but empty money bags.
|||Durban - Two gunmen who robbed a woman outside Standard Bank in Hillcrest got away with a lot less than they bargained for - nothing but a bag containing empty money bags.
The woman was sitting on the steps outside the bank waiting for it to open at about 11.30am on Tuesday when the gunmen struck.
It is not clear why the bank was closed, although a sign outside read: “The bank is temporarily closed due to an emergency situation.”
Police believe the robber targeted the woman because of the big bag she was carrying.
A Standard Bank spokesman would neither confirm nor deny the incident, but a
staff member acknowledged the incident had occurred. She was vague about the details.
Hillcrest police spokesman, Lieutenant France Mkhize, said police had responded to the call, but a case of robbery had not been opened.
“The victim did not wish to open a case because nothing of value was taken from her,” he said.
