In Clare Estate, a woman, who did not want to be named, was attacked by a man let into her yard by the gardener.
The woman, 56, had gone outside to give the gardener breakfast. His friend had been hiding in the yard.
He entered the house through a window and hid in the woman’s bedroom.
When she went back inside, the robber grabbed her and tried to strangle her with a piece of cloth.
The woman said the man dragged her from room to room, demanding cash.
During the attack she was stabbed in her leg and hands and badly beaten.
When she pressed the panic alarm button, the man fled with the gardener, who was keeping watch outside.
The woman said she crawled to a window and screamed for help. Neighbours rushed to her aid.
They pursued the men and apprehended the robber. The gardener is on the run.
In Nola Terrace, Reservoir Hills, a 54-year-old woman was hit on the head with a gun butt by armed robbers.
Her husband said he was reversing out of his driveway when a car stopped behind him.
He said a man approached him and said he was looking to rent a room for his daughter.
He left after being told there were no rooms to rent.
The husband then left for work.
The three men later returned in the same vehicle.
They cut a thick door chain with a bolt cutter and entered the house.
One of the men grabbed the woman by the throat and demanded cash and jewellery. She was also gagged.
The robbers took laptops, cellphones, jewellery and electronic goods.
The husband said two weeks earlier, the motor for their driveway gate had been stolen.
Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, confirmed both incidents. He said the Clare Estate suspect was expected to appear in court today on house robbery charges.
