Durban - KwaZulu-Natal community safety MEC Willies Mchunu would visit the families of two police officers killed in the province on Wednesday, his office said.

He would be accompanied by provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, his spokesman Kwanele Ncalane said in a statement.

Mchunu and Ngobeni would brief the families on the progress of investigations into the murders of the two officers.

Constable Gugulethu Ximba ,33, was shot dead and her gun was stolen outside her home in J-Section, Umlazi, south of Durban, on Monday evening.

Ncalane said Ximba was shot four times - twice in her neck, and in her chest and right arm.

She was part of the Durban port security services. No arrests had been made.

The bodies of student constable Xolani Kwela, 26, from the Pinetown police station near Durban, and a woman Sindisiwe Ngcobo, 25, were found last Wednesday at the side of a road in Greytown.

“The two were apparently kidnapped from KwaNdengezi township, outside Pinetown,” Ncalane said.

A 28-year-old police constable and a 20-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the killings.

They were allegedly found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Mchunu would visit the Ximba family in Umlazi at 6pm, and the Kwela family at KwaSanti, outside Mariannhill, at 5pm. - Sapa
