The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal has appointed members to take over the running of four of its regions.
|||Durban - The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal has appointed members to take over the running of four of its regions, including the influential eThekwini region.
This follows the disbanding of the regional executive committees for eThekwini, Far North, Abaqulusi and Emalahleni regions and replacing them with regional task teams.
Task teams have been appointed to oversee the running of these regions, but it is not clear when leaders are likely to be elected as the league’s national leadership made it clear its primary focus would be on next year’s elections.
Many provinces and regions of the ANC Youth League have been disbanded, as many were rendered dysfunctional by the divisions that have rocked the league since the days of its former president, Julius Malema.
The co-ordinator of the league’s provincial task team for KZN, Sbu Ngwane, said the regions had to be “restructured to enhance the work of championing the interests of young people”.
Ngwane urged ANCYL and ANC structures to embrace the regional task teams so the youth league could continue championing young people.
