|||Durban - The man accused of raping three women in Umbilo did not have any muti on him when he was arrested.
Alleged rapist Mlungisi Moyo claimed he had been “influenced” by the muti given to him by a sangoma to help him find employment.
In the Durban High Court on Tuesday, Warrant Officer Thathayithi Mdlalose of the Durban Organised Crime Unit testified that no muti was found on Moyo.
Moyo faces three counts of rape and robbery with aggravated circumstances for allegedly dragging three women into the bushes near the Umbilo park area, in July and September 2011, before he gagged, bound and raped them.
Mdlalose said Moyo ran when confronted by the police.
During cross examination Moyo’s lawyer, Vijay Sivakumoor, told the policeman that Moyo was in possession of a black CD pouch when he was arrested.
Mdlalose denied this.
Moyo’s initial plea of guilty was rejected by Judge Daya Pillay on Monday. Pillay felt that it was unclear and tantamount to a defence.
The trial continues.
