Durban - The metro police officer at the centre of a sex scandal involving prostitutes was still on the beat on Tuesday.

Metro police spokesman, Eugene Msomi, said the officer was reporting for duty while an internal investigation was continuing into his alleged demand for sex from prostitutes and then filming it.

“The investigation is ongoing and the internal process is being sped up since your report,” Msomi said.

The Daily News on Tuesday reported that the metro police constable was being probed for allegedly demanding sex from prostitutes operating along Durban’s Point precinct – and then filming them, against their will, in explicit sexual positions.

The footage was discovered by the officer’s former girlfriend after she opened the files on two BlackBerry memory cards she said she found in one of her jackets. She handed the footage to the metro police’s Anti-Corruption Unit eight weeks ago.

Msomi said a decision would be made by the end of the week.

The footage, too graphic to publish, shows some of the prostitutes performing sex acts on the metro policeman while he records them. Many of the women are visibly uncomfortable with being filmed and ask him to stop.

According to senior metro police sources, the footage threatens to open the door on wider police corruption at the Point area which include the solicitation of prostitutes who are forced into having sex and in some instances robbed by officers.
