Durban - An inter-faith delegation, led by Chatsworth politician Visvin Reddy, heeded acting premier Senzo Mkhize’s call to pray for the victims of Thursday night’s horror crash when they visited the RK Khan Hospital on Friday.

Reddy, along with pastor Paul Lutchman, Guru Alageson Govender and Imam Salim Adam, prayed at the hospital sick beds of some of the survivors of the Fields Hill tragedy.

According to the hospital, 19 people were brought to the hospital on Thursday night. Two people died at casualty while a third person died on the way to hospital.

“This has been one of the worst accidents to ever happen in KZN,” Reddy said on Friday morning.

“The premier called on us to pray and we as the ANC in Chatsworth decided to bring all the faiths in the area to the hospital. We have been saddened by this tragedy,” he said.

Two of the dead had not been identified, hospital spokeswoman, Kamla Chetty, said.

Nine people were admitted in a critical condition.

Two were transferred to King Edward VIII Hospital to be closer to family and two others were sent to private hospitals.

Acting President Jeff Radebe and Transport Minister Dipuo Peters were expected to visit the scene of the crash on Friday as well as the survivors and the families of the dead.

Johannes Dlamini, a survivor, said the last thing he remembered was sitting in the taxi waiting to go home. “Then there was this crash and the next thing I remembered was waking up in hospital.”
