Highway residents start The Fields Hill Accident Fund to help survivors and the familes of the deceased.
|||Durban - Highway residents have started The Fields Hill Accident Fund aimed at comforting the families of the deceased and the survivors of last Thursday’s accident that claimed the lives of 22 people.
The public has been urged to donate food, blankets and clothing to the victims.
Karen Janisch, the head of the fund, said three supermarket stores in the Highway area had agreed to display trolleys where food could be deposited.
The stores are:
* Woolworths in Kloof.
* Pick n Pay in Pinecrest, Pinetown.
* Spar in Hillcrest.
More stores would be added to echo the call of the cause.
“Our aim is to help in some way the families that have been affected by this accident,” she said.
“That incident has really shaken me personally, I use that road every day… Our heart goes out to all those who lost their lives, and to those who have survived, we wish them a speedy recovery,” she said.
Trolleys will be indicated by a picture of the horrific scene and the banner with the name “The Fields Hill Accident Fund”.
The Fields Hill Accident Fund plans to draft petitions for the banning of heavy duty vehicles on Fields Hill and is also planning a peaceful protest march on Saturday, between Lahee Park in Pinetown, and the Old Main and Richmond Road intersection where the 22 people lost their lives.
The fund would visit survivors this week and deliver the donations to the families.
