The rape happened on June 24, when the 22-year-old victim, who had been walking home along Bulwer Road in Glenwood, was offered a lift by two men.
Provincial police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said the victim jumped into a red VW Golf thinking that the men were genuinely offering him a lift.
“They allegedly drove to Umbilo Park, where they both raped him at knifepoint,” Naicker said.
The two men have both been described as coloured. They are believed to be aged 28 and 41 years.
“We believe they may be of assistance in the case of rape that is alleged to have occurred,” he said.
The park and the area have been plagued by numerous incidents of rape in the past.
A policeman who works in the area said rape was a huge problem in the area, especially at that particular park.
“We receive a lot of reports of rapes that happen at the park. It is notorious for robberies and sexual assault. Regular patrols are done around the area, and the park and community policing forums also monitor it,” he said.
In August, Mlungisi Nelson Moyo, 27, a Zimbabwean national who was dubbed the Umbilo serial rapist, was found guilty on three counts of rape and three of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Naicker said that they were appealing to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the two men to contact the Brighton Beach family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit.
