|||One of Durban’s most wanted suspects, who had been sought for house robbery and theft and allegedly scamming a victim out of more than a half a million rand, has been arrested.
The Durban Flying Squad and Berea detectives nabbed the 37-year-old man in a joint, intelligence-driven operation at Reunion Beach, near Isipingo.
The man was wanted for several crimes, including house-breaking, in several Durban suburbs. Cases were reported at the Berea, Sydenham and Isipingo police stations. The suspect was expected in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane confirmed the arrest, but was unable to providefurther details.
He said four men – three still at large – had robbed a couple in a house in Chancellor Avenue, Mayville, on December 3. “At gunpoint the suspects allegedly demanded cash and jewellery from the victims. They took jewellery, (a) laptop, cellphone, TV set and cash before they fled in (the) complainant’s BMW.”
Zwane said a case of house robbery had been opened at Mayville police station.
“In another case of theft by false pretences, opened at Berea police station, it is alleged the victim deposited R645 000 into the suspect’s account on different dates for a business that was on sale,” said Zwane.
