Durban - Police have made inroads into cracking one of the largest drug syndicates in the Durban CBD, arresting a 37-year-old Nigerian man in a drug bust on Friday.

The man was arrested at the intersection of Stanger and Anton Lembede (Smith) Street and charged with assaulting a police officer as well as dealing in crack cocaine.

The sting involved undercover police officers taking video evidence during several buys.

The suspect was arrested while trying to sell rocks which he claimed was cocaine to an undercover officer.

During their previous dealings with the man he had also sold them cocaine.

Brigadier Derek Captain-Hastibeer said further investigations would be carried out and that this was just one step in dismantling the syndicate-run drug trade.

“We will continue to target drug dealers because the drug trade is a serious threat to our community,” said Captain-Hastibeer.
