|||Durban - An alleged drug dealer was arrested and a large consignment of the “date-rape drug” Rohypnol was seized at a Berea West home in Durban at the weekend.
Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said dagga, unidentified tablets, an unlicensed firearm and pirated DVDs were also confiscated in the raid.
Westville police raided the house at 11am on Friday after receiving information that the 33-year-old suspect was dealing in drugs on the premises. Police found 140 Rohypnol tablets and 5kg of dagga in the main bedroom.
Rohypnol is a prescription drug with tranquillising effects, and is often used in sexual assault crimes.
Zwane said police believed the suspect had grown the dagga himself.
He said the DVDs would be examined by forensic detectives, and the .9mm Vektor firearm would be sent to the ballistics department.
The man was detained at the Westville police station. He is expected to appear in court soon.
Zwane said detectives expected to make more arrests in the case.
