Thoughts of her own two teenagers may have caused the death of a Jozini mother at the funeral of a murdered teenager.
|||Durban - Thoughts of her own two teenagers living with a relative may have caused the death of a Jozini mother yesterday at the funeral of a teenager who was found dead and raped.
A woman attending the funeral of a teenager who was raped and murdered in Jozini collapsed and died after listening to a poem about the dead girl, mourners said.
Those who assisted Halani Hadebe, 50, said she had expressed concern about her 13- and 18-year-old daughters who lived with relatives in the area.
“We took her out of the tent and under a tree for some shade and got one of the neighbours, who is a paramedic, to help us,” said Zandile Mchunu who had been with Hadebe at the funeral.
She said she had asked Hadebe what had happened to her, and if she was ill.
Hadebe had said that the poem and the death of Zamile had made her worried about her own teenage daughters, who did not live with her.
Paramedic Tholumuzi Zikalala said he had asked Hadebe if she had blood pressure problems, but she had responded by saying that she was perfectly healthy.
“When I was called back again to her side, I told her friends to phone an ambulance.
“We got her into my car with hopes that we would meet the ambulance on the way to the clinic,” said Zikalala.
He said that only when they arrived at the clinic did they see the ambulance.
Paramedics managed to get Hadebe into the ambulance, but the paramedics were unable to resuscitate her.
