|||Durban - A young Durban man was attacked and stabbed to death for his bicycle, outside the front gate of his Cato Manor home.
Yashveer Boodhoo, 22, had returned home from a fishing trip on Sunday and went cycling when he was attacked by five robbers armed with knives.
A relative, who did not want to be named, said Boodhoo loved fishing and cycling.
“He was cycling in a cul-de-sac right outside his home in Blinkbonnie Road, when five robbers hiding in the bushes pounced on him. We suspect they had been watching him for a while.”
The relative said the suspects demanded cash and a cellphone from the youngster.
“He told them he did not have any money. They then stabbed him about four times and tried to steal his bicycle. Yashveer’s screams alerted neighbours and the robbers dropped the bicycle and fled.”
The neighbours gave chase but the robbers escaped into the dense bushes, the relative said.
Boodhoo was taken to St Augustine’s Hospital at 7pm, but died two hours later after suffering severe blood loss.
The relative said a main artery was severed when he was stabbed in the leg.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday.
Police spokesman, Colonel Vincent Mdunge, confirmed the incident, saying no arrests had been made.
