|||Durban - DA MP Rafeek Shah has called for a jihad against rapists, saying there is “no greater evil” than the violation of women and children. The call was made at the launch of an anti-rape campaign by the DA in KwaZulu-Natal.
Shah, a Muslim theologian, said the word jihad meant “a concerted effort and struggle for a noble cause”. He said that it had often been “misappropriated” to mean a “holy war”.
Shah was one of several male DA MPs and MPLs who publicly spoke out against the violation of women and children at a rally at Botha Gardens on the edge of the Durban CBD, before a moment of silence was observed in solidarity with victims.
Hundreds of DA members gathered at the park on Thursday where they used Human Rights Day to highlight the plight of women and children.
