|||Durban - The last two of the five awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Hibberdene Magistrate's Court have been re-arrested, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
Captain Thulani Zwane said Mvuselelo Mnguni was re-arrested on Wednesday and Sabelo Nombeka on Thursday.
Both were caught by residents, who handed them over to the police.
They were scheduled to appear in the Hibberdene Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of escaping from custody.
They were part of a group of five awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the court last Thursday.
They had been arrested for crimes including house breaking and robbery.
On Monday, police re-arrested two of the escapees.
Sizwe Khuzwayo and Sithembizo Eric Chiliza were arrested while travelling in a taxi towards Durban.
They were with a third escapee, who was dropped off in Park Rynie, before police intercepted the vehicle.
They have appeared in court for escaping from lawful custody.
Last Friday, another escapee was re-arrested when he was caught by community members.
“This brings to a total of five awaiting trial prisoners who have been re-arrested after they escaped from lawful custody,” said Zwane. - Sapa
