A Msinga man will be sentenced for the kidnapping and beating of his girlfriend to death with a stone.
|||Durban - A Msinga man will be sentenced today for kidnapping and beating his girlfriend to death with a stone.
Pietermaritzburg High Court Acting Judge Avril Potgieter convicted 31-year-old Sphamandla Ngubane of the murder of Ntombifuthi Hadebe.
Ngubane suspected Hadebe of having an affair with another man, and took it upon himself to teach her a lesson.
On the night of April 2, 2009, Hadebe was walking on the road to her home in Msinga, when Ngubane approached her in a taxi and pulled her inside.
After driving to a secluded spot, he battered her with a stone. She suffered severe head trauma and died.
Pictures of Hadebe’s body that were submitted as evidence showed the woman’s head completely bashed in.
Post-mortem reports indicated Hadebe suffered severe brain damage before she died. A large stone, covered in blood, was found next to her body.
Ngubane was also charged with Hadebe’s rape, but found not guilty because medical evidence did not determine that she had been raped.
Ngubane was charged with his relatives, Sandile and Mthokosizi Ngubane, but Potgieter acquitted the two men because of insufficient evidence against them.
