|||Durban - A pregnant woman lost her baby after an attack on three ANC members in Estcourt in the Umtshezi Municipality.
Two of the victims are in a critical condition after the shooting on Tuesday night.
The attack comes after the killing last month of Sibusiso Majola - also an ANC member in Umtshezi - prompting concern about the safety of party members.
ANC provincial spokesman, Senzo Mkhize, said according to police reports, the assailants entered a house in Wembezi’s C Section and opened fire on the trio.
“Two of our comrades sustained critical injuries while the other had minor injuries,” he said.
Mkhize said the pregnant ANC member lost her baby because of the shooting.
“The ANC is shocked by these shameful attacks. We condemn them and we urge our law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrators are successfully prosecuted.”
In August last year, ANC ward councillor in the Umtshezi Municipality, Jimmy Lembede, was shot dead and his 11-year-old son assaulted.
Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said three counts of attempted murder were being investigated in the latest attack, and that no arrests had been made.
“The motive for the attack is not yet known.”
