|||Durban - Police are on the hunt for a traditional healer who allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in her bedroom while her family sat in the next room thinking he was performing a traditional ritual.
The 38-year-old man – originally from Johannesburg – had called the girl into her room, telling her family he was performing a ritual to help rid her of bad luck. Instead, the man apparently raped the Grade 9 Zululand pupil, before performing the supposed ritual.
Police yesterday confirmed the incident that took place last Saturday, saying the man had been on the run since the matter was reported later that day.
Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said the KwaMsane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was investigating a case of rape.
Mtubatuba police spokesman Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the man had visited the Mtholo homestead, KwaMsane, to perform a ritual on a woman who recently gave birth.
Expressing shock, president of the KwaZulu-Natal Traditional Healers Association, Sazi Mhlongo, said the man had tainted their image.
