Fifteen-year-old Njabulo Ngcobo was shot in his Imbali home at 1am on Wednesday.
Police spokeswoman, Lieutenant Joey Jeevan, said it was believed the Grade 10 pupil was awoken by his mother when their house alarm went off.
Njabulo was attacked when he went to investigate.
“He went to the lounge where he was confronted by an unknown armed man. It’s believed that the man fired one shot at the 15-year-old, hitting him in the chest,” Jeevan said.
The teenager pursued the intruder out of the house when the man turned around and shot him again, killing him.
