The case against Bongukwanda Excellent Gasa, Sipho Innocent Sikhakhane, and Skhulu Phiwayinkosi Gasa was postponed to August 2, when they are expected to bring a formal bail application.
Sithembiso Ngidi, an executive member of the ward 75 Jacobs area branch, was shot dead on June 23 after taking part in a door-to-door election campaign in Lamontville township, south of Durban.
Defence lawyer Laurens de Klerk asked for a postponement for the men's residential addresses to be verified.
The men, who face murder charges, were arrested on July 2.
The courtroom was filled to capacity with members of the Inkatha Freedom Party and the African National Congress. - Sapa
